Bradenton, FL man sentenced for events at the Capitol on January 6, 2021
A 47-year-old man from Bradenton, Florida, who stormed the Capitol with his parents on January 6, 2021, has been sentenced to prison, according to the Department of Justice.
John Anthony Schubert III received his sentence on Thursday after pleading guilty to assaulting law enforcement officers during the Capitol breach, which was related to the 2020 presidential election.
At around 1 p.m. on January 6, Schubert joined a crowd near the Peace Monument at "Peace Circle," an area that was restricted to the public that day.
After the crowd moved toward the West Plaza, Schubert used his left shoulder and arm to push against an officer, leveraging his weight, the DOJ reported. Court documents also revealed that Schubert attempted to punch the officer but retreated after being sprayed with a chemical irritant.
By approximately 2:21 p.m., Schubert had reached the Capitol building and climbed through a broken window near the Senate Wing Door, helping his parents do the same.
Schubert was arrested in Bradenton on October 4, 2023.
He has been sentenced to 18 months in prison, followed by 24 months of supervised release. The DOJ also ordered him to pay $2,000 in restitution.
In April 2024, Schubert pleaded guilty to charges of assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers.
Since January 6, 2021, more than 1,470 individuals have been charged with crimes related to the Capitol breach. The investigation is ongoing.
